Intel India launches Intel India Maker Lab

Bengaluru, August 27, 2015: Intel India today unveiled the Intel India Maker Lab and the Intel India Maker Showcase in its Bengaluru campus, furthering its commitment to help realize Government of India’s Digital India and Make in India vision by accelerating innovation in India. Intel India Maker Lab will focus on hardware design by boosting product innovation and enhance maker capability for startups in India. Intel India Maker Showcase will let visitors and participants see, feel and experience the products and solutions from the Intel India Maker Lab along with other innovations from Intel.

The Intel India Maker Lab will be open to aspiring and existing entrepreneurs who are pursuing new hardware products and solutions in Internet of Things, Mobile Devices as well as other compute domains. They will be provided with development kits, reference boards, hardware and software tools to develop and test their ideas and bring their products and solutions to life, as well as mentoring and business support. The Intel India Maker Lab plans to support ten startup companies initially. The selection process for startups would be completed in October 2015 and the Maker Lab engagements are planned to start subsequently. The Intel India Maker Lab and Intel India Maker Showcase initiative supports the Intel and Department of Science and Technology (DST)’s `Innovate For Digital India’ Challenge that drew over 1900 entries from across India. Recently, 20 teams were shortlisted in the Innovate for Digital India Challenge. The shortlisted teams will be eligible to use the Intel India Maker Lab without having to go through a further selection process.

Intel India Maker Lab plans to collaborate with incubators and accelerators of academic institutions, industry associations, as well as other corporate entities to offer the benefits of Intel India Maker Lab to hardware startups they are supporting.

Speaking at the opening of the Intel India Maker Lab, Kumud Srinivasan, President, Intel India, said, “Intel India is committed to accelerating Digital India and Design in India by invigorating innovation across the eco-system. Design capability is a critical aspect for the success of these initiatives, and the Intel India Maker Lab will provide a facility to offer that support”.
